Housed in the historic Jonkershuis building on the Werf at Spier Wine Farm, Stellenbosch, Hoghouse BBQ is inspired by the wholesome tradition of enjoying natural farm raised fare whilst appreciating the beautiful heritage architecture and drinking world class wines where they are made.
The Hoghouse BBQ & Bakery offers summer BBQ lunches either al fresco on the oak tree shaded front terrace, inside the naturally cool Cape Dutch buildings, or on the Oven Deck where customers can observe the baking process.
In winter, we make use of numerous wood burning fireplaces, and the Oven Deck is equipped with infra red heaters. There is a pastry shop where you can buy and take away our breads and pastry to enjoy at home and a small retail space housing locally produced homeware and kitchen treasures.
The art collection on the restaurant walls belongs to Spier and makes up part of their extensive collection of South African artists. The restaurant is also available for function hire, with the convenience of the Spier Hotel a short walk away.

The menu is based on simple natural foods styled around PJ’s love of Texas style smoking and nostalgic recipes. PJ heartily supports local farmers and their mission for sustainable, nutritious produce. The bread is baked outside, in a masonry wood-fired oven bringing an age old artisanal tradition back to the Spier farm. The bakery kitchen makes the legendary Pasteis de Nata amongst other sweet treats.
